For the past 8 or 9 years I have been training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a martial art.
It was through my Brazilian instructor that I discovered Portuñol.
For those that don’t know, Portuñol is a sort of Spanish-Portuguese fusion.
So to say I understood every word he said would be a lie.
However, there were certain words he would repeat again and again, always in his own idiosyncratic way.
These included:
Mentalidadchi = mentalidad = mentality
Dichipleena = disciplina = discipline
Constaancia = constancia = consistency
And as I sit down to write this, I’ve realised something rather fitting:
This is the 150th edition of Crystal Clear English Weekly.
That means that for 150 weeks in a row, I’ve sat down and written this newsletter.
So perhaps constaancia has been drilled into my brain more than I realised.
When it comes to improving at almost anything, consistency is vital.
Not just language learning.
I remind myself of this every day with the following screensaver on my computer:

September is about to begin, and for many of us that means getting back into a routine after the summer.
Whatever aspect of your life you want to improve over the coming months, remember:
You don’t have to be perfect.
But you do have to keep showing up.
Or, as my coach would say:
Con-stan-ci-a.
See you next week,

Consistency will help you achieve your goals
This week’s three tips:
SOMETHING TO AVOID 🫣
🤦🏻♀️ “We need to maintain consistent”
Maintain needs an object, a noun:
→ We need to maintain consistency.
✅ “We need to remain consistent”
Remain can be followed by an adjective:
He remained calm during the interview
SOMETHING TO SOUND CONFIDENT 🧐
👔 Business expressions
“Stay the course”
To continue with a plan or course of action, even when it becomes difficult or progress seems slow.
We’re not seeing the results we expected yet, but we believe in the strategy, so we’re going to stay the course.
