As you will see, this weeks’ email is somewhat a continuation of last week’s.
As you ease back into a routine after the summer break, keep one thing in mind.
You can just do things.
Over the past year, students have expanded their businesses, engineered moves into new departments and changed jobs.
One student led a roundtable discussion in English for their company.
Countless others have given presentations in English that, not so long ago, they would have dreaded.
In the next 12 months, some of you reading this are going to achieve things you hadn’t even considered.
One of my goals is to improve my Greek.
So I started an instagram account to document my progress.
I have recorded a video every day for 42 days.

At the time of writing, I am approaching 11,000 followers.

We will see what becomes of it.
But we will keep in mind,
that you can just do things.
Got an idea? Do something with it!
This week’s three tips:
SOMETHING TO AVOID 🫣
🤦🏻♀️ “She achieved to launch her own business.”
In Spanish, you can say conseguir/lograr + infinitive, but achieve doesn’t work this way in English.
Achieve is normally followed by a noun, so you could say:
✅ She achieved her goal.
✅ She achieved her goal of launching her own business.
✅ “She managed to launch her own business.”
When you mean conseguir/lograr hacer algo, use manage + infinitive.
We managed to finish the project on time.
SOMETHING TO SOUND CONFIDENT 🧐
👔 Business expressions
“Take matters into your own hands”
To take control of a situation yourself instead of waiting for someone else to act.
In Spanish: Tomar cartas en el asunto / tomar el asunto en tus propias manos.
After weeks of waiting for a response, she decided to take matters into her own hands and contact the director directly.
