😌 Worth it?

#023

We get asked this question all the time…

What’s the difference between “worth” and “worthy”?

Let’s start with worth.

If something vale la pena, then “it’s worth it".

You can also use it with a noun or gerund:

  • Is the Easter Intensive Course worth doing?

  • Yes! It is worth the time, the money and the effort!

Simple, right?

Worthy on the other hand means, “deserving of” or “capable of”.

You might hear something like, “he was a worthy leader”, or “it was a worthy cause”. Meaning that they had the character or value required.

But most of the time it will be used at the end of an adjective:

  • Do you think they are trustworthy? (Deserving of your trust)

  • The car isn’t roadworthy. (Capable of going on the road)

I hope that this was worth reading!

If it’s in the news then its “newsworthy”

SOMETHING TO AVOID 🫣

🤦🏻‍♀️ “This night”

When thinking “esta noche”, don’t say “this night”. Occasionally we may say “this night” and “that night” when speaking about plans or memories.

Do you remember that night we got lost?

(Looking at the calendar) So on this night we will go out for dinner and that night we have the concert

“Tonight”

“Esta noche” is tonight, so be careful.

Where do you want to eat tonight?

SOMETHING TO SOUND CONFIDENT 🧐

👔 Business jargon explained

“Golden handshake”

A payment made to people when they leave their jobs, usually at the end of their careers. It is given as reward for long service in their job.

Did you hear? John is leaving the company with a golden handshake
