Afternoon everyone π
In the corner of Barcelona, The Nou Camp, El Camp Nou, the Spotify Camp Nou is currently under construction.
I know this because I drive past it most days. There are cranes everywhere.
It got me thinking about 2 words; workforce and manpower:
Workforce refers to the total number of people engaged in a particular organisation. It emphasises the collective labour force contributing to the operation.
βThe companyβs workforce includes people from different departmentsβ
Manpower is a word that feels, in 2024, a little out of date. Traditionally it refers to the labour force available for work. Usually manual labour.
βThe factory relies on skilled manpower to operate the machineryβ
So they both refer to the human part of productive activity. Workforce is perhaps a broader and more inclusive term. While manpower emphasises physical labour more.

βA worker provides manpower and is also part of the workforceβ
