#030
Afternoon everyone 👋
I hope you all enjoyed Labour Day this week, a welcome day off.
It seems like a good opportunity to tell you about “morphological relationships”. These are words which share a common root (raíz).
Below is a list of words with the morpheme of “labour”. A morpheme is the smallest unit of the word. Make sure you know them all:
Laborious: Involving or requiring a lot of hard work and effort.
Labourer: A person engaged in physical work, especially in manual labor.
Collaborate: Work jointly on an activity, especially to produce or create something.
Collaboration: The action of working with someone to produce or create something.
Collaborator: A person who works jointly on an activity or project.
Labour-saving: Designed to reduce the amount of work needed to accomplish a task.
So all the words above share the same central idea, of labour.
The observant of you may have noticed that labour is also spelt as “labor”.
That my friends is the difference between British and American spelling, but more on that next week.
Until then!
No labour on Labour Day
