🏁 Getting over the finishing line
#033
Morning everyone 👋
You’re probably thinking - It’s Friday. Why is the newsletter late this week?
Good question.
Were you being lazy?
Perhaps, but my excuse is that we have been busy “putting the finishing touches” to a project.
This means making the final improvements to something.
You could say that we have been “wrapping things up”, concluding them.
But my favourite expression to use here is “to dot the I’s and cross the T’s”.
Literally it means making sure that every i has a dot over it and every t has a cross through it. It means to pay attention to the details when finishing a task.
So next time you finish something, don’t forget to dot the i’s and cross the t’s.
Until next week!
Putting the finishing touches to something
This week’s 3 tips:
SOMETHING TO AVOID 🫣
🤦🏻♀️ “I’m looking forward to see you ”
“Look forward to” is strange because it doesn’t use the infinitive.
It can can either be followed by a noun…
I am looking forward to the trip
She is looking forward to the festival
✅ “I’m looking forward to seeing you ”
…or with gerund form of the verb (-ing).
She is looking forward to coming
I am looking forward to watching the match
SOMETHING TO SOUND CONFIDENT 🧐
👔 Business jargon explained
“Work-life balance”
The division of one’s time and focus between work and outside of work.
He is a workaholic. He works too much and doesn’t have a good work-life balance.
