Often, when I’m typing away at my computer, I am told that I have misspelt a word. Written it incorrectly.

Take organisation for example. The computer says it’s wrong and tells me to write organization.

For a moment, I feel a bit stupid.

Then I realise that the computer is set to US English instead of UK English.

You see there are quite a few difference between British and American spelling. Perhaps the most famous one is:

As English learners it is essential to know the differences.

🤦🏻‍♀️ “She is very sportive”

If you are describing an active lifestyle then sportive is technically correct, but the reality is it’s an outdated term and is rarely used in modern English.

✅ “She is very sporty”

Sporty is the go-to word for anything athletic, active or related to sports.

They are such a sporty couple

“Glass ceiling”

A metaphorical barrier that prevents certain individuals, particularly women and minorities, from advancing to higher levels of leadership or success within an organisation or industry, despite being qualified.

A highly qualified female executive may face a glass ceiling when applying for a CEO position in a company where leadership roles are dominated by men
