šŸ¤ Quid pro quo

#070

You probably recognise this phrase from one of the most famous scenes in cinema history. (Keep reading—we reveal it at the bottom of this email)

The phrase is Latin and means ā€œsomething given or received for something else.ā€

There are a few other expressions with a similar meaning:

  • āœ… A fair exchange

  • āœ… A reciprocal arrangement

  • āœ… One hand washes the other

  • āœ… You scratch my back, and I’ll scratch yours

And that’s exactly what we’re offering you.

Here’s the deal:

So here’s our quid pro quo:

šŸŽ„ You send us a short video of yourself answering some simple questions (in Spanish).

šŸŽ We give you a free 30-minute private class in return.

We’ll turn your answers into short clips and share them on Instagram.

We would love it—not to mention be hugely appreciative—if you shared your Crystal Clear English story.

Do we have a deal?

This week’s three tips:

SOMETHING TO AVOID 🫣

šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø ā€œLet’s do a dealā€

Saying ā€˜do a deal’ isn’t incorrect, but it is perhaps less common. Despite not being the most common, you may hear used when referring to completing a business agreement.

They are looking to do a deal with a new supplier

If I do one more deal before the quarter ends I will hit my target

āœ… ā€œLet’s make a dealā€

This is the more common phrase. It’s used when creating, negotiating, or finalising an agreement.

Let’s make a deal that benefits both parties

They made a deal which allows them to expand into new markets

SOMETHING TO SOUND CONFIDENT šŸ§

šŸ‘” Business expressions

ā€œA two-way streetā€

A relationship, agreement, or interaction that requires effort, contribution, or benefit from both sides. In business, it means that both parties need to give and take for a deal, partnership, or communication to work effectively.

Successful business relationships are a two-way street—if you want great collaboration, you have to offer something valuable in return
