Do you know the difference?
I’m not much of a fan of comic books.
Superheroes? I pass, thanks.
Sure, I liked some of the recent Batman films.
But Superman, Spiderman and the thousand Marvel characters just never appealed to me.
Are Marvel films cinema? Or are they something else?
But there is one comic book I do like. No, one I actually love.
I found it on the shelves of my aunt’s house when I was a child. (Hi Jane 👋)
You won’t find any superpowers in this one.
And yet, I’d argue that it has more magic in its pages than any Marvel nonsense.
It’s just about a kid, Calvin, and his pet tiger, Hobbes.
Hobbes speaks English. Naturally.
And that’s the reason I’m suggesting it you. As a great way to improve your English.
We understand that solid pages of text in a book can be quite a slog - (algo pesado).
A comic strip on the other hand is much easier.
So this week I invite you to discover the magic of Calvin & Hobbes.

If you said this, it would be like you saw a funny film. One related to comedy not comics books.
If you mean a film based on comic book characters for could say:
I saw a film based on a comic book
✅ “I saw a superhero film”
This is probably the most natural thing to say.
I took the kids to see a superhero film on the weekend
SOMETHING TO SOUND CONFIDENT 🧐
👔 Business expressions
“Sketch out the plan”
To outline a plan in simple, broad strokes before going into details.
It’s the early stage of planning, like drawing a quick sketch before creating the full picture.
Before we meet with the client, let’s sketch out the plan so everyone knows the basic structure
