We hope you have enjoyed time with your nearest and dearest this festive season.

The end of one year and the start of another is always a time of reflection.

We wish you the best of luck with all of your plans this year, and if they involve improving your English, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.

What is your focus this year?

This week’s three tips:

SOMETHING TO AVOID 🫣

🤦🏻‍♀️ “I am focused in”

“Focused in” immediately flags you as a non-native speaker. It’s a small preposition error, but it chips away at credibility, especially in professional contexts.

“I am focused on”

If you want to sound precise and professional, keep your attention focused on, not in.

Remember that as on is a preposition, it is always followed by either a noun or gerund.

She was focused on improving the process

I’m really focused on this project

SOMETHING TO SOUND CONFIDENT 🧐

👔 Business expressions

“To turn over a new leaf”

To make a clear and intentional change in behaviour or approach, especially after accepting that the previous way wasn’t working.

After missing our targets last quarter, we decided to turn over a new leaf and simplify how we work
