I’m trying to learn Greek.

Trying being the key word here.

It may surprise you to know that it’s difficult. Like, really difficult.

“What did you do in class?”, Krystallo asked this week.

“Umm, we looked at verbs, regular verbs I think.”

She started laughing, “Greek has regular verbs? I thought they were all irregular.”

“Great, even more complicated”, I thought to myself. Quickly followed by:

“Our students are lucky. English irregular verbs are so easy.”

I mean really. Take - took - taken, or this:

So, students, readers, English learners. Learn your irregular verbs and don’t complain.

Because it doesn’t get any easier than learning English.

Plus, now we have put 150 of them on our new resources page.

Download one for free. Not even the most advanced of you will know all of them.

How do you practice them? Easy. Just use this sentence to use all 3 forms:

If you had seen what I saw you wouldn’t see anything again.

Just replace the words in bold with another verb to practice.

So for take you would say: If you had taken what I took you wouldn’t take anything again.

You see. An easy way to practice.

Anyway I must go. I’ve got some verbs to learn.

Download a list. Print it off. Pin it up.

This week’s three tips:

SOMETHING TO AVOID 🫣

🤦🏻‍♀️ “I have saw it”

After have you can’t use the past form of the verb.

You would just say:

I saw it

“I have seen it”

You must alway use the past participle instead.

I have learnt a lot recently

SOMETHING TO SOUND CONFIDENT 🧐

👔 Business expressions

Cut corners

To do something in the easiest, fastest, or cheapest way by skipping important steps. Usually by reducing quality, accuracy, or safety as a result.

It often implies:

  • Carelessness

  • Short-term thinking

  • Avoiding necessary effort

And it almost always has a negative tone.

If we cut corners now, it will cost us later.
