If you have spent time on the internet recently,
(which I wouldn’t advise, but I’m guilty of doing)
You may have come across the idea of -maxxing.
Yes, that’s a double x.
In internet culture, “-maxxing” is an informal suffix (added to the end of a word) used to describe maximising a specific area of life.
You may come across the following:
Looksmaxxing → improving physical appearance
Healthmaxxing → diet, sleep, longevity, supplements
Stylemaxxing → clothes, grooming, personal brand
This week I joked to a friend in the UK that I have been Euromaxxing.
That is, enjoying the slower paced, romanticised, European lifestyle👇

It’s a slightly-ironic meme word.
But one that has an important idea behind it.
After all, don’t people come to Europe for the lifestyle, the quality of life and the work-life balance?
Anyway, I must go.

This week’s three tips:
SOMETHING TO AVOID 🫣
🤦🏻♀️ “I have more quality of life”
You might want to say: “Tengo más calidad de vida”.
But English doesn’t treat “quality of life”, as something you increase in quantity.
✅ “I have a better quality of life ”
You don’t increase it, you improve it. So you would say better, not more.
Healthmaxxing has given me a better quality of life
SOMETHING TO SOUND CONFIDENT 🧐
👔 Business expressions
“Trade offs”
A trade-off is a decision where gaining one advantage requires accepting a disadvantage.
There are no solutions. There are only trade-offs
